Port MP Leslie Williams has been listening to the people
"With the challenges ahead, you’ve told me you want a government that will keep our economy strong to help take the pressure off your budget & a local voice who can deliver for our community".

News Story Summary:

"Premier Dominic Perrottet has a long-term economic plan for NSW, and the leadership and experience to deliver it - so we can pay for the things that matter most" said Mrs Williams.

"Here in Port Macquarie, that means delivering important infrastructure - like upgrading Port Macquarie Hospital - and investing more in our local schools, hospitals and frontline staff."

The main points of Leslie William's plan to keep our community moving forward are:

* Strengthening the NSW economy because only with strong economic management can we continue to pay for the things that matter most.

* Creating a new Kids Future Fund, investing for every child born in NSW until they’re 18, to give them a head start to buy their first home or further their education.

* Creating jobs across NSW with investments in modern manufacturing and 120,000 fee free training places.

* Helping with the cost of education including $150 Back to School vouchers and up to $4,220 per year in preschool fee relief.

* Lowering energy bills including a $250 energy switch voucher, seniors energy rebates and low-income household support.

* Getting more people into their first home by giving buyers a choice on stamp duty.

* Investing $116 billion in new infrastructure, to create jobs and deliver vital infrastructure to meet future growth.

* Building new and upgraded hospitals and health facilities, including the Port Macquarie Hospital helipad relocation to improve services.

* Making journeys easier and safer by investing in regional road upgrades, like our upgrade of the Pacific Highway.

* Providing pharmacy reform so you don’t have to wait to see a GP and establishing 25 urgent care services to free up hospital emergency rooms.

* Providing a full year of free preschool for all children to reduce your cost of living and provide early childhood education to every family.

* Delivering Net Zero emissions by 2050, investing in renewable energy, and creating more green space for local communities.

About Leslie Williams:

Leslie Williams is the State Member for Port Macquarie and in March 2019 was appointed to the position of Deputy Speaker in the NSW Parliament.

Leslie has lived in Lake Cathie with her husband Don since moving to the region to take over the local Post Office in 1996.

She grew up in South Australia, where she worked as a teacher. She was also CEO of the Sudden Infant Death Association in the Northern Territory when the family lived in Darwin.

Operating a small business and raising two children in the area gave Leslie an in-depth understanding of the problems facing local families.

In 2002, she began training as a registered nurse and before her election was employed at Port Macquarie Base Hospital.

In 2007, she stood for The Nationals and was the first candidate to achieve a swing against the sitting independent. In 2008, she came very close to winning the Port Macquarie by-election in one of the largest swings in NSW history.

Finally, in 2011 she was elected as the Member for Port Macquarie with a margin of 6.4%.

Since then she has been fighting hard for the people of Port Macquarie, the Camden Haven and surrounding areas (and Lord Howe Island) to make sure that the Government is well aware of the issues facing her local communities.

One of her proudest moments was turning the sod to commence construction of the long awaited Lake Cathie Public School in 2014.

Leslie successfully re-contested the seat of Port Macquarie in 2015 and 2019 and now holds the seat with a 20.2% margin.

Following extensive public debate on koala habitat protection policy, Leslie joined the Liberal Party on 21 September 2020.

Despite a busy schedule representing her community in State Parliament, Leslie continues to be actively involved in many community organisations including Rotary, the Hastings Business Women's Network and Bravehearts as well as being an avid fundraiser for cancer research with the Can Too Foundation.

She has held numerous roles in the NSW Parliament since being elected in 2011 including Chair, Committee on the Health Care Complaints Commission, Parliamentary Secretary for Renewable Energy, Minister for Early Childhood Education, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Assistant Minister for Education as well as Parliamentary Secretary for Regional and Rural Health.

"I’m asking you to back our plan so we can keep our local community moving forward" said Leslie Williams.
