We 'Road test’ Hastings Co-op’s New Mustard Pickle
Hastings Co-op have introduced their own ‘Bago Bluff’ labeled brand of Mustard Pickle, a Bronze Medal winner at the 2018 Royal Hobart Fine Foods Awards

Not all mustard pickles are created equal. Many of you will have consumed pickles from top brands & probably felt they couldn't be beat, well, that's what we thought too.

In order to assess the product in it's natural environment, we subjected the Hastings Co-op 'Bago Bluff' Mustard Pickle to our rigorous ‘Ploughman’s Lunch’ taste test.

Our ‘Ploughman’s Lunch’ taste test also featured other top quality Hastings Co-op products :

• The Bread : ‘Ryans Hot Bread Kitchen – White seeded sliced loaf’ - hard to beat!

• The Cheese : Hasting Co-op's own brand ‘Black & Gold Matured Cheddar Cheese’ - Block Cheddar at it's best!

First Impressions:

First impressions of the 'Bago Bluff Mustard Pickle' where good. We were please to find a transparent security wrapper around the top of the lid protecting the contents from tampering – you just can’t be to careful these days, and the new label design reflects the products quality.

On opening the jar you are hit with a very pleasant, yet mild aroma of madras Indian curry, not to strong, but adding to the products appeal in a new and exciting way.

The pickle itself looks delicious & features chunks of finely cut, locally produced tomato, zucchini, capsicum, carrot, cauliflowers & onion.

The refined flavor of the ‘Bago Bluff’ pickle comes from a gourmet combination of turmeric, curry powder, mustard powder & Cumin.

Road Test | Pickle In Action:

Conclusion - Fantastic! After a ‘Ploughman’s Lunch’ featuring excellent bread, tasty mature cheddar & ‘Bago Bluff’ pickles we voted to give the 'Bago Bluff Mustard Pickle' a winning score of 4.5 Stars.

By unanimous agreement we decided that we would have give it 5 Stars - if only the jar had been bigger!

Bago Bluff manager Tim Walker said the range’s popularity continues to surpass all expectations and the locally-made pickles are tipped to be another “huge success”.

“Apart from being delicious, the mustard pickles are made right here in Port Macquarie, are full of fresh, local produce and are gluten and preservative free,” he said.

“We’ve also taken the opportunity to gradually re-brand the full Bago Bluff range in new gold themed labels, which include an outline of our beautiful local landmark, Bago Bluff itself.”

“When the Bago Bluff range was first introduced in 2016 we wanted to showcase the best locally-grown produce and offer something unique to the Mid North Coast that would help boost employment and the local economy.

“Since then we’ve introduced new products, including several in commercial tubs for the hospitality industry, and more recently a range of gift hampers.

“We’re hoping the new labels will help Bago Bluff be even more recognisable for fine food lovers right across Australia.”
