Polina Gagarina 'Million Voices'
'Million Voices' was the Russian entry in Eurovision 2015, performed by Polina Gagarina & co-written by Australian Katrina Noorbergen.

'A Million Voices' was performed by the Russian singer, songwriter, actress, and model Polina Gagarina.

In the grand final it received 303 points, finishing second, becoming the first second-placed song ever to receive more than 300 points in the Eurovision Song Contest.

The song was written by Swedish songwriters Gabriel Alares, Joakim Björnberg, by Australian Katrina Noorbergen and by Russians Leonid Gutkin and Vladimir Matetsky.

The song easily qualified from the first semifinal, winning it outright. In the final, it was performed 25th following Azerbaijan and preceding Albania. At the close of voting, it finished second with 303 points, Russia's best finish in 7 years.

The 63-year-old singing contest in which viewers phone in to vote for their favourite has always largely been political, says Karen Fricker, a professor of Dramatic Arts at the Brock University of Canada who was in Vienna for the grand final.

The live audience could be heard booing whenever a country awarded points to Russia at the song contest, which took place at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, prompting one of the hosts to remind the audience that “music should stand over politics tonight”.

Conchita Wurst, who was condemned by leading Russian religious figures following her win last year, called the boos “incomprehensible” and said that Gagarina “cannot be blamed for the rules” in her home country.

The booing was thought to be linked to Russia’s anti-LGBT policies and its involvement in the Ukraine conflict and not related to Paulina's performance which was applauded by the crowd.

Conservative Russians considered Conchita Wurst (Previous years Eurovision song contest winner) a threat to traditional family values, and had expressed concern about hosting the Eurovision Song Contest if Russia won.

Russia’s communications coordinator for Eurovision told The Moscow Times: “It was very embarrassing for us last year when this happened, as it was not the spirit of the contest.

"We are here to build bridges, as the motto [of the contest] says".

she should have won :(

This would've won 100% if it hadn't been for the fact it was Russian. Shame really.

Russia is part of Europe. Every Russian is european. None of them is an enemy. They don't want to be. And we should not be theirs.

Be angry, all right, about their government, about their elders, who aren't better than ours, honestly but think about young people in Russia who open their arms and hearts to us as well.

I'm Swedish, but I think Paulina was better

I still wonder how Sweden won over this. I mean, yes, Sweden was good. But Russia? Russia was amazing. Hands down.

You can see the fear in her eyes. That's why I voted for her. Russia was the dark horse en she stands there in front of 200 million people. Are you able to do it? From 2:25 till the end, she just rocks and is proud of standing there. Look at the end of her song. She almost cried. Great job!
