Joni Mitchell - The Hissing Of Summer Lawns

You don't have to be black and poor to sing the blues. In Joni's masterpiece decadence sings the blues just as authentically. I love the line "a diamond dog carrying a cup and a cane, looking through a double glass, looking at too much pride and too much shame".
It's all about greed and entrapment with the legacy of self-loathing it brings.

Joni painted so many vivid images through her descriptive lyrics, and this is one of my absolute favourites of hers.
The album this came from, as well as "Court And Spark" are my two ultimate favourite Joni albums. Fantastic stuff.

This song has a history for me that is beyond words yet somehow I never knew the full lyrics until now, much appreciated!! XO

Oh my.........I can't put this into words. Never saw the video before and I love the perfectly slinky move of a shadow.
I sang along, almost every single word. This is really one of her best albums.

When Joni turned to jazz starting with "Hissing" she reached sublime musical maturity - a true masterpiece!
