The milestone represents the latest stage in the development of the business case for the project to improve facilities at the College’s Port Macquarie and Westport campuses.
The upgrade is in its early planning phase, with the NSW Government currently investigating various options including working with community stakeholders and preparing a business case for the project.
Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams said she welcomed the architects being appointed to this project.
“I look forward to seeing the architect’s concept plans soon,” Mrs Williams said.
“Port Macquarie is an important regional centre so I’m very pleased the NSW Government is planning for meeting the educational needs of our young people.”
Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said the NSW Government was prioritising the needs of students in regional areas such as Port Macquarie.
“This upgrade at Hastings Secondary College will provide the local community with the high-quality education facilities our students and teachers deserve,” Ms Mitchell said.
The NSW Government is investing $6.7 billion over the next four years to deliver 190 new and upgraded schools to support communities across NSW.
In addition, a record $1.3 billion is being spent on school maintenance over five years, along with a record $500 million for the sustainable Cooler Classrooms program to provide air conditioning to schools.
This is the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.
