Port Macquarie social housing renters 'living in fear'
A group of Port Macquarie renters is living in fear, claiming drug and alcohol fuelled violence is jeopardising safety at a social housing block operated by Community Housing Limited.

News Story Summary:

Many elderly tenants say they’re afraid to leave their homes – and are calling for the state government to intervene.

About Community Housing Limited:

Community Housing Limited (CHL) manages a diverse portfolio of almost 2,862 social housing, affordable housing & specialist disability accommodation across NSW.

CHL provides services to people seeking housing assistance on the mid north coast, including access to temporary accommodation and a range of private rental assistance, such as providing long-term secure rental tenancies for people who pay subsidised market rate*.

As an alternative to private rental, CHL's services ensure that people who have low incomes can find a dependable housing arrangement so their children can attend the local school, the parent or parents can maintain employment or study, and the family can generally have enough money to live on.

Currently, CHL NSW manages 2,862 properties with 34% of our tenants elderly, 20% of our tenants from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds and 34% of our tenants people with disability.

CHL serves customers from our offices in Port Macquarie, Kempsey, Coffs Harbour & Taree, as well as through outreach and community-based services.
