Police end latest search for William Tyrrell near Kendall
Around 30 police officers and detectives spent more than four weeks scouring bushland and waterways near Kendall, south of Port Macquarie, where the three year old was last seen on September 12, 2014

News Story Summary:

Police end latest search for William Tyrrell, after searching bushland and waterways near Kendall

The latest search for missing toddler William Tyrell on the NSW Mid North Coast has been completed.

Strike Force Rosann detectives are continuing their overall search for the toddler.

Red, blue and black cloth as well as other items were found in the latest search but none have been linked to William's disappearance.

He was last seen playing in a Spider-Man suit outside his foster grandmother's home on Benaroon Drive at Kendall seven years ago.

During the latest search a car, which belonged to the boy's late foster grandmother, was also seized by police from Gymea in Sydney's south on November 9.

Police believe the car may have been used to transfer the boy's body. New evidence from the operation is expected to be put before the coronial inquest, which is set to resume at a later date.

Police described the latest operation as a "high intensity search" that involved archaeologists as well as the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

The search mainly centred on the former home of the toddler's late foster grandmother and a section of bushland a kilometre from the home.

At one point in the search, the AFP used ground penetrating radar to scan the inside of the garage and in scrub near the home to detect any clues that may lead to William's remains.

Officers also searched rainwater and septic tanks at the property and police divers scoured a nearby creek bed.

In the past fortnight, the search effort was hampered by heavy rain and storms.

A $1 million reward remains in place for information that leads to the recovery of William Tyrrell.

A rake signed by members of the search team has been erected at the search site, which is less than a kilometre from where the three-year-old was last seen at his foster grandmother's home seven years ago.

"We will not stop till we find you," one message reads.

"May you rest William," reads another.

Mixed feelings among locals

Kendall mother Elise Lubke said the little known evidence found during the latest search was deflating.

"[I] was hoping for some answers, but nothing really again," Ms Lubke said.

"So [I'm] feeling a bit let down for William's sake."

She said "it still feels like yesterday" since the toddler vanished, but she said local families have become more vigilant.

"Kendall has changed a lot since then. You just don't see the kids out as much," she said.

Resident Anna Lawn remained hopeful that the search would lead to answers about William's disappearance.

She was grateful for the efforts of police and all those involved in the search.

"It's been pretty horrible weather and [the emergency services] looked shattered," Ms Lawn said.
