PortMac.News hopes you enjoy the material and wishes all Cowperians a happy voting day on Saturday.

And enjoy your democracy sausage!

1) Caz Heise (INDEPENDENT)

My campaign is all about us, our communities and our futures.

As an Independent candidate, I stand for you, the people and voices of Cowper, and advocate for a community-minded approach to politics.

I am not beholden to big-party policy and preferences, nor to monied interests and influence.

I will always work with you, and for you, with respect, honesty and integrity. My key priorities are:

* Climate : The science of climate change is clear and informs us to what needs to be done to protect our way of life and environment. It is time to take real action.

* Integrity : It is critical we restore the public’s faith in our political system by restoring decency and creating a culture of accountability, transparency and trust.

* Health : Access to professional, effective and affordable health care should be enjoyed by everyone who lives in Cowper.

* Respect : At the core of all healthy, resilient and productive communities is a deep commitment to respect.

There has never been a more important time for community-led independent candidates like me to have a voice in the Australian Parliament. Together we can be the change Cowper needs.

2) Timothy Nott (GREENS)

I’ve lived in the Cowper electorate for 18 years.

I have a Bachelor of Science from the ANU and a Graduate Diploma in Marine Science from the NMSC in Coffs harbour.

With 25 years experience working as an Environmental Scientist within the development approval system, I have a detailed understanding of the issues in Cowper and have witnessed the community struggle with the rising cost of living and affordable housing.

The predictions for a changing climate based on science is happening in front of our eyes yet the leadership continues to build infrastructure that fails when needed. It’s time for change.

I have the skills to lead Cowper to a better future.

I am a strong advocate for publicly owned green power in Australia.

I support the Australian Greens Power Australia plan that aims to create a non-profit, publicly owned energy retailer that provides energy as a basic service for everyone.

With the natural resources we have in Cowper, we should be part of the electric revolution creating green jobs, affordable power while protecting our natural assets.

Homes are first and foremost a right.

The current legislation is allowing inappropriate and inefficient housing putting lives in danger while increasing the cost of living.

I will advocate for a strategic planning system that prioritises homes for the community before company profits creating strategic long term climate ready housing as well as funding the shortfall of public housing.

3) Keith McMullen (LABOR)

Keith McMullen is a Port Macquarie born local. Keith's family is a foundational family who celebrated their community through business and sports.

Keith worked as a painter and decorator for twenty five years before becoming a high school teacher.

After teaching in Queensland and Hong Kong, Keith returned to Port Macquarie five years ago where he researched and wrote a book on Port Macquarie's history of Surfing.

Keith is deeply concerned about the rising costs of living and housing and the challenges faced by families with insecure work, stagnant wages and poor quality services.

He is determined to save Centrelink and to end the cashless debit card. Keith will be a passionate advocate for our community and work hard to deliver the results our community deserves.

4) Pat Conaghan (NATIONALS)

A father of two, Pat and his wife Ilona have chosen to live and raise their family on the beautiful Mid-North Coast to make sure their kids get the kind of upbringing only the regions can provide.

Born and raised in Kempsey, Pat’s family still live in the town and across the Hastings.

Pat has dedicated his life to helping people in our community spending 12 years as a cop before becoming a respected local lawyer.

Over many years, Pat contributed much of his time pro-bono to women’s shelters, youth groups and community legal centres.

Alongside this, Pat has run his small business for over a decade and has a deep understanding of what it means to hire locals and what havoc the increased taxes under a Labor government had on our local industries and jobs.

After seeing the fantastic investment in our region, Pat wants to work to make sure this continues whilst focusing on making sure our power prices lower, our services keep up with demand and more job opportunities come to the region.

5) Faye Aspiotis (ONE NATION)

Faye moved to the Mid North Coast 20 years ago to work as a Project Engineer on water and weather station projects for an environmental monitoring company.

“Living in the best part of Australia, I have always been passionate about maintaining the pristine beauty of this region,” she explains. “And I want to keep it that way.”

Like One Nation, she opposes mining and CSG (coal seam gas exploration) on prime agricultural land, and the privatisation of water.

Growing up on a dairy farm in South Gippsland, Victoria, taught Faye about how hard farmers work to produce our food.

She knows the challenges they face and their important role in land care.

They are views she shares with One Nation.

“Farmers are the backbone of Australia’s economy,” she maintains.

“By promoting local stores that sell their products and buying Australian made products we can support them and our other industries towards building a self-sustaining nation.”

Faye shares her home in Frederickton, NSW, with her husband and four children.

“Family values of love, respect, responsibility, integrity, and spirituality drive us to be our best,” she says.

“Whether we are guiding and protecting our young or supporting our elders, family is at the core of our society.”

As a proud Australian, Faye believes that democracy is integral to our functioning as a fair and just nation.

“Respect for every individual and their right to make their own choices and tolerance of our differences promote social equality where all are valued and supported to reach their full potential,” she maintains.

If elected, Faye will help implement One Nation’s Citizens Initiated Referenda (CIR) policy, which will give every Australian the chance to have their say on any issue and allow change to happen without waiting for politicians to listen and act.
