Petbarn Port Macquarie & RSPCA 'Clear the Shelters' 2020
Petbarn Port Macquarie is calling on local pet lovers to head in-store between Friday 21st and Sunday 23rd to help loveable animals find their forever home.

Port Macquarie-Hastings animal lovers encouraged to find their perfect fur-companion this weekend, with reduced adoption fees

The initiative is part of the RSPCA’s Clear the Shelters campaign which helps rehome hundreds of animals throughout the country every year.

Petbarn Port Macquarie will be opening-up their Adoption Centre, and will have a range of animals big and small, including dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs available to adopt at a fee of just $29.

Local Petbarn Port Macquarie Store Manager Joshuah Lanesbury said this is an important event for Petbarn as they look to encourage even more people to ‘adopt, don’t shop’.

“Adoption is one of the most rewarding and valuable things you can do – both for the animal and the individual. They bring you companionship, unconditional love and it’s amazing to see pets, who may have otherwise been left behind, thrive in their forever home.”

“We are passionate about pet companionship, which is why we partner with shelters all year round to ensure as many animals as possible have a second chance at their happily ever after. Through working with our adoption partners, we have helped rehome thousands of rescue pets” continued Joshuah.

Petbarn in-store Adoption Centres have assisted over 47,000 animals in finding a forever home in the past eight years and hope to rehome another 500 pets across the three-day event.

Although adoption fees will be drastically reduced this weekend, normal adoption procedures still apply, including one-on-ones with prospective adoption parents, and current household pets, to ensure each animal is matched to the right loving family.

All adoption pets have undergone a comprehensive vet check and been de-sexed. In all cases dogs and cats are micro chipped, treated for internal and external parasites (such as worms and fleas), and had their initial vaccination, and dogs are also treated for heartworm.

Chief Executive Officer of RSPCA NSW, Steve Coleman, is encouraging people who have decided to become pet owners to contact their local RSPCA shelter or Petbarn Adoption Centre and give a loving home to an animal that needs it the most.

“RSPCA NSW is extremely appreciative of the support of Petbarn and its customers who help us find fur-ever homes in many of the states around Australia. Placing our animals in high-traffic locations, such as Petbarn stores, really helps them get adopted and we hope to see as many of them as possible find new homes thanks to this partnership.

“This weekend is an opportunity for us to rehome these animals and help animal lovers find a new companion by reducing fees and ensuring all animals are healthy, de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped and have undergone veterinary checks and behavioural assessments,” says Coleman.

RSPCA Clear the Shelters will run from Friday 21 February 2020, to Sunday 23 February 2020 at Petbarn Port Macquarie.
