Located in the Hollywood Hills above Los Angeles, California, the house has been frequently used as a set location in American films.
Photographic and anecdotal evidence suggests that the architect's client, Buck Stahl, may have provided an inspiration for the overall structure.
Built in 1959 as part of the landmark 'Case Study Houses Program', the house is considered to be the iconic representation of modern architecture in Los Angeles during the twentieth century.
The information in this video comes from the books mentioned at the end of the movie, mainly:
'The birth of cool' which provides a rich description of the period in music, movies, lifestyle and so on and 'The complete case study program' which offers an in depth description of its houses.
When I saw this picture, I instantly recalled a movie that it was used in. Columbo's 1968 "Prescription Murder". The end scene is tops, with a shot of the pool, ect. How on earth did I remember this???? That's how cool this home is!!
the movie is 'why do fools fall in love'..its a 1999 hale berry movie about the life and wives of frankie lymon....
Thank you for sharing this video with us, it´s very interesting!
i, i recently watched the video 'CASE STUDY HOUSE #22' i'm currently doing a project on the case study houses. i was just wondering where did you get the background information about california at the time?
beatiful house, great view
omg that's wonderfull!!
@elicatis Great, thanks!
Well done - cool as the abode itself.
Very well done!!!
What movie is the clip at 6:57 from? Thanks
I hate cookie cutter houses! Houses are supposed to be unique and a reflection of the owner, not a mirror image of every single house on the block!
No hay aluna manera que el vídeo este en español o con subtitulos?
SUPERB..!! This is what we SHOULD have.. almost had.. but for the greedy 'housing syndicate' that builds crappy, rotting termite food.. and calls it 'modern' !!
I only recently got a chance to see the house and was totally blown away. This presentation compliments the art, the artist and the feeling of wonder it brings...
Eliza, no hay alguna forma y me mandes el texto de tu video?
In my opinion the small pool which has been added afterwards looks awful. I ask myself why they included it in the renderings.
your video is sooooooo cool.

I originally train as an architect in the UK & I'm a die-hard 'Modernist'. I can't believe that i'm admitting this, but I've spent a lot of time in LA - but never got around to visiting this icon of modernism.
I will have to purge the guilt next time i'm there !!
P.S If you're heading for LA after lockdown ends, you've got to hire a car !
Need somewhere to stay in LA? Checkout the somewhat seedy 'Hollywood La Brea Inn' - A classic retro motel at 7110 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90046 - It's in trendy West Hollywood, it's cheap, cheerful & 2 Stars (But only just !) - You can walk to the Chinese cinema & the shopping in the area is really great.
