Port Macquarie : Bicentennial Walkway nearing completion
Major upgrades to one of Port Macquarie’s prime waterfront walkways has reached a new milestone, but it was a bittersweet moment for the now disbanded committee that developed the blueprints.

News Story Summary:

The Bicentennial Walkway Project was a key project identified in the Port Macquarie Town Centre Masterplan with the aim to provide a safer, continuous pathway from the recently completed Town Green West through to Kooloonbung Creek Nature Park.

The Bicentennial Walkway is an investment from the Commonwealth Government through the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund ($3.05 million).

Port Macquarie Hastings Council (PMHC) has contributed additional funding from the Town Centre Masterplan Fund.

The project includes:

* 5m wide foothpath between the Town Green West to Town Wharf

* Renewal and widening of the existing boardwalk and pathway along the Hastings River foreshore through to Kooloonbung * Creek Nature Park at Gordon St

* Construction of new pedestrian underpasses at the William Street and Gordon Street bridges

* Relocation and upgrade of existing utilities (sewer rising main and recycled water main) in Short Street carpark and Kooloonbung Creek Reserve

* Maintenance of Town Wharf (completed on behalf of Maritime Infrastructure Delivery Office (MIDO) – Transport for NSW).

The PMHC engaged local contractor Building Heights Pty Ltd to undertake the Works with construction commencing in December 2021.

The project is  expected to be fully completed by October 2022, weather permitting.
