The latest models, titled ‘matrix’ and ‘street’, mark the second generation of the helmet. designed especially for an urban environment, this new project focuses on the needs of city cyclists, electric scooter riders and skaters.

The first generation of the lumos helmet was mainly focusing on the light indicator function instead of combining the function with the appearance for the target group. by considering the customer feedback of the initial product, the team decided to focus on a design which combines urban, streamline and street style elements, because not everyone want to wear a traditional road bike helmet.

In order to understand the current bicycle market situation, altplus analysed the different areas where helmets are needed, and which different types are available on the market.

Together, altplus and lumos developed a design language which makes sure that the light modules are seamlessly integrated in the helmet.

The front lights are now twice as bright as the original, which means they are bright enough to see the road ahead of you and they are more visible to be seen from the front.

The innovative back panel features several improvements and upgrades, like unique lighting patterns and signal modes to show the direction and to make the user stand out during the night. for the design of the back panel altplus developed different concepts for the signal modes.

In order to design a good visible and understandable light signal language on the helmet they focused on graphics that are easy to understand for other traffic participants.

Two of the concepts are now used in the final product. the different signal modes can be controlled by a remote which is connected via bluetooth.

The helmet can be also connected to the lumos app, where the user can program parts of the led panel, track his rides and share data with apple health or google fit.
