Oxley MP Melinda Pavey enters PMHC 'Dysfunction' Debate
Member for Oxley Melinda Pavey said Port Macquarie-Hastings Council (PMHC) should unite and focus on applying for State Government grants, particularly for funding local road and bridge replacements.

"While the community popularly elected Peta Pinson to the mayoral position, she has not received the same level of support from a number of councillors," Mrs Pavey said.

"This division and internal conflict has been far from ideal for the community, and, I too have faced my own frustrations with the council relating to the opening of Lake Cathie.

"I hope to see stability and discipline that means council staff can focus on rural industries and communities such as Comboyne, Rowlands Plains, Wauchope and Pappinbarra."

Mrs Pavey said that as the previous Minister for Roads she was able to ensure a half-a-billion-dollar commitment by the NSW Government for local roads across the State. In addition, she allocated $150 million to fix country bridges.

"Whilst I'm grateful for the work Kempsey Shire Council and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council have done on preparing grant applications to date, including sealing Maria River Rd, I understand the Mid North Coast councils are well placed to apply for funding to fix timber bridges," Mrs Pavey said.

"In addition, there are also a number of other important projects that require State Government funding over the next three years, which I would like to see progress.

"The road from Comboyne to Kew is worth particularly mentioning, given the number of farmers who need good road infrastructure for their operations.

Mrs Pavey said she supports mayor Peta Pinson and her request to meet with the Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock to discuss the possibility of an early election for Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.

Mrs Pavey also offers her best wishes to outgoing general manager Craig Swift-McNair, who has taken a position at Woollahra Council, and she acknowledges there have been challenges following the recent by-election.
