Urban Design and Social Plan for South Kempsey
The Department of Family & Community Services are working in partnership with Kempsey Shire Council, Indigenous Coordination Centre and members of the DALMA (Dunghutti Aboriginal Leadership Management Alliance) to prepare a long term vision for both the physical and social improvements to the South Kempsey Area.
Over the last 15 months Council, with the support of Housing NSW and the Indigenous Coordination Centre, have been working with consultants on an Urban Design and Social Planning project for the South Kempsey area.
The report has produced some short, medium and long term projects that are designed to achieve a new, appealing and attractive vision for the area.
In preparing the design the consultants have talked with community members, businesses, council and government agencies.
The consultants were impressed with the beauty of the valley and the diverse community assets that are located in South Kempsey.
These include the schools, the PCYC, South Kempsey Oval, and the world famous Glenn Murcutt designed Visitor Information Centre and Museum.
There is also room to build on those assets, attract investment and build community pride.
