Sydney Café grateful for support after anti-vaxxer ambush
A small Sydney coffee shop that was targeted by an anti-vaxxer for following the new NSW health rules in has received a swell of much appreciated local community support.

News Story Summary:

On the first day of eased restrictions in NSW on Monday, Cafe Dzajko, in Sydney's inner west, copped abuse from a customer for only allowing fully vaccinated people to enter the venue.

The NSW government mandated that hospitality and retail could reopen yesterday if all staff and customers were fully vaccinated and able to show proof of their vaccination.

But an unnamed man filmed himself criticising the cafe for displaying NSW Health signs on their front door asking people to show proof of vaccination before posting the video online.

Barista Andrassa Kest, 28, was working alone in the cafe when the man arrived and started abusing her for "walking implicitly into segregation".

Cafe Dzajko only opened in May this year, about one month before Greater Sydney was plunged into what became a 15 week lockdown.

"This is a new business, we try hard... but it's very hard as don't have much support," Ms Kest said.

"I am frustrated because I just try hard to follow the rules of the government," Ms Kest said.

She said she believed in the rules as they are will to keep everyone safe.

"I just need [other] people to understand that."

The owner of the cafe, Dimce Dzajko, said he was shocked when he saw the video online and felt outraged his employee had been abused for just doing her job.

"For people come here and do that to her, that's not acceptable," he said.

"She hasn't done anything to upset somebody."

In response to the anti-vaxxer's video, the local community has rallied behind the cafe to show their support, coming out in droves to order coffee and food today.

Many supporters have also been trying to counter the negative reviews left by anti-vaxxers online.

Mr Dzajko said he was taken aback by the kindness of strangers.

"I was surprised, in my life i haven't been helped too many times by other people so to see this I was surprised," he said.

"I'm very grateful."

Mr Dzajko said he was not going to allow the incident to shake their confidence and they would continue trading in line with the rules.

However, he believes the rules are putting businesses in an awkward position.

"It's not fair that we have to check vaccination proof [as] I don't want to have a fight with somebody — how's it going to look if we start arguing back?

"The government should do more to help police this."
