Pandemonium Rocks festival announces big line-up changes
New touring rock music festival Pandemonium Rocks will go ahead next month, promoters have confirmed today, albeit on a smaller scale than first announced.

News Story Summary:

The festival, which currently lists a wide array of international rock legends like Blondie, Deep Purple, Placebo and many more on its line-up, was announced earlier this year to with venue's in Melbourne, Sydney, the Gold Coast and Bribie Island.

Today, they confirm the events will go ahead with an amended line-up, as it shifts to become a single stage event.

"Pandemonium Rocks will be changing to a one stage event," a statement on the festival's social media pages reads.

"All dates remain the same. A revised line-up will be announced after Easter."

While there is presently no information on who will feature on the event's new line-up, at time of publication, websites for bands like Deep Purple, Wolfmother, Cosmic Psychos, and Dead Kennedys currently feature no mention of the festival.

"For the sake of transparency, we are still waiting on responses from festival stakeholders across multiple time zones, which has a run on effect on ticketing, production, artwork etc.," the statement continued.

Festival wants to 'avoid further confusion'

In recent weeks, rumours of the festival's viability were sparked after a Channel Nine Gold Coast report suggested the event was cancelled.

This report prompted the festival to assure ticketholders that the events would be going ahead, albeit with 'alterations', prompting a social media outcry.

The statement addressed this: "We appreciate this may not be the update you were hoping for, but in order to avoid further confusion, we will share confirmed details as soon as possible."

Pandemonium has faced a range of challenges since announcing its line-up in January.

Shortly after that announcement, RSL NSW criticised the Sydney event, which was initially to take place on Anzac Day at The Domain in the city's CBD.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns weighed in, suggesting the concert would be forced to move.

"I don't think it's appropriate for concerts anywhere in NSW on Anzac Day, certainly big public rock concerts like that," Mr Minns said.

"In the first instance, I've got to protect the CBD and ensure that the RSL has an opportunity to have that march, and the community can come together."

The Sydney leg of the festival was eventually moved to Sydney Olympic Park.

An industry in crisis:

Pandemonium Rocks' announcement comes amidst a difficult time for music festivals in Australia.

Yesterday, just a week after tickets went on sale, longstanding youth music festival Splendour In The Grass announced it would not be taking place this year.

Earlier this month, regional touring festival Groovin The Moo made the same decision.

It's becoming a common story, with these high-profile events just the latest casualties in a sector facing a "feast or famine" crisis.

Speaking with triple j's Hack program Australian Festival Association Managing director, Mitch Wilson, said all music festivals are currently faced with greater challenges than usual.

"We're seeing costs up 30 to 40% across the board, and ticket sales just aren't where they need to be to cover those costs," they said.

"Australian festivals are really struggling at the moment because of the strength of the Australian dollar, and travel costs are through the roof."

The dates for Pandemonium Festival are:

Saturday 20 April – Caribbean Gardens, Melbourne

Thursday 25 April – Cathy Freeman Park, Sydney

Saturday 27 April – Doug Jennings Park, Gold Coast

Sunday 28 April – Sandstone Point Hotel, Bribie Island (Blondie not appearing)
